Programme announced for Dutch AgriFood Week 2016
Get to know your food with over 100 events held from 12 – 25 October throughout the Netherlands
Children’s cooking competitions, a peek behind the scenes of the food industry and at farms, innovation tours at companies, and conferences and lectures about the facts and fiction involving food.
From 12 through 25 October, everyone will have the chance to gain new insights into the future of food in the Netherlands and the world during the Dutch AgriFood Week. The 2016 edition will be more than three times the size of the event held in 2015. Farmers, horticulturists, scientists and members of the industry are eager to open their doors and share their innovations in the fields of health, sustainability and efficiency.
The Dutch AgriFood Week offers plenty of activities for anyone with an interest in food and tasty dishes (consumers and professionals). This year’s event includes a comprehensive programme in which people can take a peek behind the scenes, literally and figuratively. World Food Day will be held in Rotterdam on 16 October; this major public event will feature debates, excursions and workshops. During the entire week in the rest of the country, visitors can participate in open farm tours, food trendwatching excursions and interesting exhibitions.
Cooking with children
The Netherlands is full of undiscovered young cooking talent. During Dutch AgriFood Week, we will give these children an apron and a stage for displaying their cooking talents. Hundreds of children will be cooking healthy, tasty meals with the aid of Kokkerelli Kids University for Cooking, Keukenbazen and Kidskookcafés, and via Resto VanHarte and Allerhande magazine. Competitions and activities focusing on cooking healthy meals with others will be held all over the Netherlands. On Wednesday, 19 October, this will all come together in a festive national final competition: the KidsKookBattle, powered by Allerhande magazine in the Food Halls in Amsterdam. By doing the cooking themselves, children learn at a young age where their food comes from, and what healthy food is: in essence, they learn by doing.
Dutch AgriFood Week 2016 offers a comprehensive programme for agri-food professionals. The week will officially be opened by the State Secretary of Economic Affairs Martijn van Dam at Food Valley Expo on 13 October, where the Food Valley Award will also be presented.
The Holland Innovation Tours on 12 October are theme tours during which participants will visit several innovative companies and knowledge institutes. Professionals from the Netherlands and abroad will be participating.
During the Food Inspiration Days, food professionals will taste and experience food in a whole new way, and will gain new insights for the coming year. World-class conferences will also be held during the week, such as the World Dairy Summit in Rotterdam and CropWorld in Amsterdam.
Healthy food, better world.
Many of the events and partners have been inspired by the official Dutch AgriFood Week 2016 theme, ‘food and health’. The Netherlands is working hard on a variety of innovations to ensure that people all over the world live longer, and go through life healthier and fitter. Examples that may be experienced during Dutch AgriFood Week include the development of crops with extra proteins and vitamins, meals with less salt and more flavour, and personalised nutrition for staying fit or recovering faster from illness or injury. During Dutch AgriFood Week 2016, consumers and professionals will see how our food can form the foundation of a healthier society.
